All-round Frontend Developer
Rotterdam | 24–40 hours per week | junior/mid-level
Do you enjoy building interfaces that look good and work well? At Woonmodule, you’ll work on home search tools and configurators that people actually use. You’ll help shape the product, occasionally dive into the backend, and work closely with a small team from our office in Rotterdam.
Since 2006, Woonmodule has been building digital products for the residential property development sector. Our home search tools and configurators help people find and customise their future homes, while our new-build platform helps property developers manage the entire customer journey, from initial lead to signed purchase agreement.
We do this with a small team of developers, designers and construction specialists working closely together. More than 200 clients rely on our software across hundreds of residential development projects throughout the Netherlands.
We’re looking for a developer who prefers working on the frontend, has a good sense of how things should look and feel for the user, and isn’t afraid to occasionally dive into the backend. You don’t need to be a professional designer, but you do need to have good taste.
What will you be doing?
You’ll spend most of your time building and improving frontends for our home search tools, configurators and dashboards: responsive, polished and maintainable. You’ll translate client requirements and user feedback into interfaces that feel intuitive.
Because we’re a small team, you’ll be involved in the entire process: from a client request or user problem to design, implementation and production. You won’t just be handed tickets, you’ll be expected to think along with us about what we should build and how best to solve the problem.
From time to time, you’ll also work on things that aren’t strictly frontend: extending an API for a new feature, fixing a bug in a PHP backend, or adapting a Python service. You don’t need to be a backend specialist. You do need to be able to understand existing code, work out a solution independently or with the help of AI tools, and judge for yourself whether that solution is good enough to merge.
Our stack
Our existing websites run on PHP with vanilla HTML and JavaScript; for CSS, we use SASS and Tailwind. Newer components are built in Python. Our products run on our own CMS and CRM, both developed and maintained in-house. We use Git, Docker for local development, and CI/CD for deployments. We’re small enough to try new tools and ways of working quickly. If something demonstrably works better, we use it. We take a pragmatic approach and choose what fits the product.
What are we looking for?
- Strong HTML, JavaScript and CSS skills, with an eye for detail and usability
- A good sense of design and UX: you don’t need to be a designer, but you notice when something feels off, think from the user’s perspective, and can improve it
- You’re not intimidated by backend work – you find it interesting; you can read and modify PHP and Python even if they aren’t your main languages
- You actively use AI tools while developing, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and can explain where they make you faster or better – and where you know not to trust them blindly
- You’re curious and actively look for better tools, techniques and ideas
- You work independently, take initiative without needing to be asked, and communicate clearly
- You can improve an existing codebase without immediately wanting to rewrite everything from scratch
- You have a healthy dislike of repetitive work: if you find yourself doing something manually for the third time, you automate it
- You speak Dutch or English
Nice to have
- Experience with Figma or similar design tools
- Experience with PHP or Python
- Experience with configurators, e-commerce or other interactive products
- Knowledge of the construction or real estate sector
What do we offer?
- Competitive salary plus pension scheme
- Full reimbursement of public transport costs or a mileage allowance
- Our own products, used by thousands of people – you’ll still be able to see your work running and evolving years later
- A small, experienced team with short lines of communication and plenty of freedom in how you organise your work
- An environment where you can grow broadly: from frontend specialist to someone who understands and contributes to the entire product
- An international team
- A pleasant, quiet and spacious office in central Rotterdam
- We believe in working together at the office, with some flexibility to work from home
- Lunch for the whole team every Friday
- No unnecessary meetings or bureaucracy
This role may be less suitable for you if…
- You only want to work on frontend and would rather leave all backend work to someone else
- You only want to work with React
- You think AI development tools are overhyped and prefer to type everything yourself
Would you like to help us build the digital future of residential development? We’d love to hear from you. Send your CV and a few examples of work you’re proud of — a repository, website or project — to talent@woonmodule.nl. Please also briefly tell us which AI tools you use and what you use them for.
